| - Ali Dubh was an Arab who lived in the neighborhood of the Grogrande Bakery. Ali was born and raised in Arabia until the Chief of his Tribe entrusted to him the Great Elixir. Other Arab Sheiks wanted it, so Ali fled with it to America. Still they pursued him, so Ali Dubh asked Leontine Grogrande to keep the Elixir safe for him. Madame Grogrande's husband, Jules, mistakenly used the Great Elixir in making John Dough, a life-sized gingerbread man, who was brought to life when baked. Ali Dubh had planned to use the Elixir himself to live forever, but when he learned of John Dough, he vowed to capture the baked man and eat him bit by bit to gain the benefit of the lost Elixir. He paid Jules fifty cents for ownership of the gingerbread man, and then paid a witch nine dollars for two transport powders that would take him to wherever John Dough might be. He found himself on the Isle of Phreex, but was captured by the Brotherhood of Failings before he could take a bite of John Dough. He was imprisoned but later escaped, causing John Dough to flee the island with his young friend, Chick the Cherub. Ali Dubh used his second and last transport powder and found himself on the Isle of Mifkets. He allied himself with a dangerous Mifket named Ooboo and enlisted the Mifkets' help in hunting down the gingerbread man. However, John Dough escaped again, this time with the help of the Fairy Beavers. Without any more transport powder, Ali Dubh was left stranded with the Mifkets.
