  • "Brazen Images, Inc" was an adult greeting card company which ran from December 1981 to December 2006 - a total of 25 years. It was founded by photographer Kurt Abraham who remained its primary photographer and sole art director during that time. During the 80s, Brazen Images was one of the foremost purveyors of the sexual counter culture image in the alternative greeting card business - with worldwide distribution. Initially it focused on coy nudes and semi-nudes of both men and women with comedic gag lines. But as times changed, the card line was forced to become more and more explicit in its content in order to satisfy its target market. This eventually became its undoing. As times changed - and with the onset of AIDS, the constant bashing by the Moral Majority and the shunning of hetero images by the Gay Mafia, its inherently - and overtly - heterosexual humor and photography fell out of favor. It continued on - having a renewed success - by using colorized vintage images which by their very nature seemed less offensive - no matter how explicit they actually were. The addition of cartoons instead of photography also placated the growing conservatism as well. But by 2006, Kurt Abraham had had enough of the constant uphill battle and shifted his focus in 2003 to a new enterprise: NaughtyNostalgia.com which specialized in vintage (pre-video) stag films from the 1900s to the mid-1980s. Brazen Images closed its doors on December 31, 2006. In 2008, another greeting card company (Smart Alex) re-issued many of Brazen Images best selling cards for a new audience.
