| - Sentinel was a unique discipline in Final Fantasy XIV, as it could only be played using off hand equipment - shields. A player could not become a "pure" sentinel, as he must have had a a main hand weapon or tool equipped at all times. Any class that could equip a shield could be paired with the Sentinel Discipline, including Disciples of Magic. As mentioned above, this discipline was retired and many of its abilities were folded into the Gladiator discipline, resulting in the only other disciplines able to equip shields (Thaumaturge and Conjurer) being denied access to most of the Sentinel abilities, as they were made Gladiator-only in preparation for the addition of the Paladin job.
