The 1919 Battle for Tsaritsyn was a military confrontation between Bolshevik forces and the White Army during the Russian Civil War. It was for control of the significant city and port on the Volga River in southwestern Russia, after unsuccessful White attempts in 1918. The battle resulted in a White victory and capture of the city, opening the way for a White offensive towards Moscow.
