| - The United Nations Space Command, known as the UNSC for short, is humanity's primary defensive force. Unlike the Halo franchise, many of those within the UNSC are portrayed as being incompetent and serve only as a supporting role in the series.

- The UNSC is the current government of Humanity, and operates the largest military in order to protect those under it. Formed in the 2160s before Faster Than Light travel, it was the overseer of the UN military in a time where several different factions competed for control of the Sol System. Due to widespread corruption in the UEG and CAA, the UNSC took over the role as government, and declared that it was the leader of Humanity in 2555. The UEG was reinstated briefly before this, but was met with many ignoring them, and many leaders taking bribes, financing rebels, etc.
- The UNSC formed halfway through the 22nd Century as a remnants of old cultural ideologies clashed for supremacy in the Sol System and mainly oversaw United Nations military operations in space. The UN massively militarizing it's off-world colonies via propaganda and then defeated communist and fascist forces in the "Interplanetary War" which consisted of several side-battles that took place on Mars, the Jovian Moons and the South American rainforests. Although the Inplanetary War brought great suffering and death unto Earth and its colonies, it united Humanity's militaries into a common, armed force by the end of the 22nd Century.

A bloody struggle was being waged against groups of terrorists (or freedom fighters) called the Insurrectionists, who wanted independence from the Unified Earth Government. The UNSCDF, a branch of the UNSC, fought constant battles against the Insurrectionists. In an attempt to help end the long running war against the rebels, the UEG commissioned the ORION Project (also known as the SPARTAN-I project) and later the SPARTAN-II Program, which created a group of elite super-soldiers to combat the separatists and the insurrections they spawned. - The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) may be the prime human government in the Halo universe, though this organization may only be the defense agency under the control of the Colonial Administration Authority. The UNSC's military arm is called the United Nations Space Command Defense Force, they are most commonly seen defending planets. Stations such as the Cairo Station are part of the UNSCDF. During the events of Halo 2 the UNSC fought the Covenant above Earth by defending their planet against all odds.
