Nintendo DS showed continued dominance shifting over 518,000 copies and Wii slowed down a bit with 453,000 units. The PS3 managed 185,400 hardware units. In a bit of a surprise, the Xbox 360 jumped over the PS3 this month, outselling Sony's console by about 10,000 units. This month's NPD report had Madden take 3 spots, with Xbox 360's edition at #1, PS3's version at #2 and the All-Play for Wii disappointingly at #9. Peter Moore recently called Wii "inhospitable" for third-party publishers.[1] Despite such low launch numbers, the Wii version has historically had better legs.[2] Too Human by Silicon Knights earned a #8 spot with 168,000 thousand copies sold. Anita Frazier quotes: "Madden NFL '09 was the top-selling game of the month, and launched with 2.3 million units out of retail doors in it's first month, besting last year's '08 title by 2%. Year after year, the industry can count on the Madden release to bring folks into stores during the relatively lazy days of late summer" "Year-to-date, Grand Theft Auto IV remains the top-selling game at 4.8 million units sold in the U.S. through August"
