| - August 2008 NPD sales data coverage: August 3 - August 30, 2008. Released on September 11. Nintendo DS showed continued dominance shifting over 518,000 copies and Wii slowed down a bit with 453,000 units. The PS3 managed 185,400 hardware units. The effect of this month's price cut on Xbox 360 sales won't be seen until NPD September 2008. The PSP was the only one that showed growth over NPD July 2008's figures. This month's NPD report had Madden take 3 spots, with Xbox 360's edition at #1, PS3's version at #2 and the All-Play for Wii disappointingly at #9. Peter Moore recently called Wii "inhospitable" for third-party publishers.[1] Despite such low launch numbers, the Wii version has historically had better legs.[2] Too Human by Silicon Knights earned a #8 spot with 168,000 thousand copies sold. Anita Frazier quotes: "Madden NFL '09 was the top-selling game of the month, and launched with 2.3 million units out of retail doors in it's first month, besting last year's '08 title by 2%. Year after year, the industry can count on the Madden release to bring folks into stores during the relatively lazy days of late summer" "Year-to-date, Grand Theft Auto IV remains the top-selling game at 4.8 million units sold in the U.S. through August"
