Before I write a policy page outlining the scope of this project, I need to gather people's thoughts on exactly what the scope of this project should be. Obviously, we want to cover the universe of Pizza Time Theatre/ShowBiz Pizza Place/Chuck E. Cheese's. Thus obviously, we will have articles about the animation, the shows, the restaurants, important figures in the chain's history, elements in the restaurants, etc.

  • Before I write a policy page outlining the scope of this project, I need to gather people's thoughts on exactly what the scope of this project should be. The question about project scope, as I see it, is how far out do we go when discussing topics that do not lead to ShowBiz Pizza Time/CEC Entertainment? Please consider the following: * Should we discuss non-ShowBiz uses of The Rock-afire Explosion? In other words: * Is The New Rock-afire Explosion something we want to discuss, even though it was never used in the context of ShowBiz Pizza? * Do we want to discuss the Rock-afire's use at other restaurants such as Pistol Pete's Pizza or Billy Bob's Wonderland? * Is Chris Thrash's ShowBiz Pizza Zone in-scope, considering it's unrelated to the original company, but uses the old logo, albeit in blue? * Are fan installations such as Smitty's Super Service Station in Mississippi or Chris Thrash's Rock-afire show installed at his home within scope? What about other fan installations? * What about Aaron Fechter's recent Rock-afire work on YouTube? * What about adaptations of Rock-afire animatronics for other purposes, such as Will the Go-Willa, where "Will" is a Fatz animatronic who plays a restyled Tune Machine? * How deep do we want our biographical articles to be? Consider this: * Nolan Bushnell has done, according to the Wikipedia article about him, a ton of stuff. Chuck E. Cheese was just one of many business ventures for Bushnell. How far into his biography do we want to go? Do we want to discuss his entire life (i.e. more or less adapt the Wikipedia article straight), or do we want to focus only on his involvement with Pizza Time Theatre? Bushnell has a very thorough and well-referenced biography on Wikipedia, and so we don't have to write anything. It's just a matter of how much we adapt. * What about people like Bob Brock? In the case of Brock, I have already adapted the entire Wikipedia article about him for ShowBiz Pizza Wiki. It was all of two sentences, and therefore would be considered a stub article both on Wikipedia and here. Thus if we want an article for Bob Brock, we're going to have to write it ourselves. How far do we want to go in researching Brock's life and career for ShowBiz Pizza Wiki? * On the same note as people, what about companies? Pizza Time Theatre, ShowBiz Pizza Place, and Discovery Zone are no-brainers. They belong because they are the predecessor entities that made CEC Entertainment what it is today. But what about companies that do not end at an acquisition by Chuck E. Cheese? Consider: * Brock Hotel Corporation. Is this even within scope, or no? As I understand it, ShowBiz was related to this, but kind of loosely. * What about Atari and Warner Communications? As I understand it, Pizza Time Theatre was related to them and stemmed from them, but maybe only for about ten seconds. Should these be within the project's scope? * Creative Engineering is an entirely different beast. Creative Engineering was, at one point, a minority owner of ShowBiz Pizza Place, which definitely puts at least some of their history within the scope of this project. However, now they have no involvement with the company. How far back do we go in Creative's pre-ShowBiz history? Should we discuss Creative's activities after they ended their involvement with ShowBiz? * What about the company's vendors and suppliers? I'm talking about entities such as Garner Holt, which is a company that has manufactured Chuck E. Cheese bots Garner Holt, to my knowledge, has never had any involvement in the shows other than supplying the hardware. Are they within the scope of the project? I could go on, but hopefully you see where I'm going here. And hopefully you see how these things intertwine a little bit. We need to carefully define what is within the scope of this project and draw the lines somewhere. It might be better to think of it this way: What should we cover in-house, and at what point do we hand it off to Wikipedia or other projects? So let's think about this for a while. We can certainly create tons of articles within the areas that are obviously within scope, but we need to determine and document the boundaries. What are your thoughts?
