During the first year of Second Life, events were scarce enough that they were even held by the Liaisons themselves. Additionally, Char Linden used to compile a daily notecard with a list of all scheduled events, make a texture to put up on a sign at the welcome area, and IM everyone to remind them of upcoming events, as well as manually hand out landmarks to people who wanted them. This is a repository of those notecards.
