The Guard was the succeeding unit of the Rebel Honor Guard, and possibly the Alliance Elite Guard, who preformed the same role for Alliance High Command members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, during the Galactic Civil War. The New Republic Honor Guard was a ceremonial royal guard unit of the New Republic Chief of State. They also provided security to senators.
