It is traditionally celebrated with the consumption of large amounts of alcohol and by doing things that one might regret with people that they wouldn't normally do it with. In some countries (for example, Russia, Ukraine and other former Soviet states), the New Year is celebrated in a manner very similar to Christmas, but as a secular holiday. * Amy Rose, Johnny Lightfoot and Sonic visited Knuckles the Echidna shortly before New Year to have a break in the Ice Cap Zone as part of the complete story Snow Business.
* Eve of Destruction revolves around a party being disrupted by Doctor Bob Bobble (as the Indestructible Bulk). Sonic and the Chaotix Crew were on hand to defeat this foe before going back to having a good time.
* Decap Attack got in on the action, with The Hungry Guest involving a costume party completely sabotaged by Billy No-Friends, the nephew of Igor.
* Tekno the Canary celebrated New Year by allowing the Freedom Fighters to move into her workshop, kicking off The Monster Wakes.

- New Year's Eve was a tradition celebrated on Earth on December 31st that honored the arrival of the new year. The 1st of January was thus known as New Year's Day. On New Year's Eve, 1999, which was then referred to as Millennium Eve, many people believed that the arrival of the year 2000 marked the new millennium. When Henry Janeway asked Shannon O'Donnel what her plans were for 2000's Millennium Eve, she told him "No different than last year's Millennium Eve. I plan to be asleep." O'Donnell then explained her take on the Millennium Eve hype, stating "everyone was convinced it was the dawn of a new era. But when the world didn't end and the flying saucers didn't land and the Y2K bug didn't turn off a single light bulb, you'd think everybody would have realized it was a number on a calendar
- New Year's Eve is a celebration of the past year that occurs in all versions of the Animal Crossing series. As the first part of the two-part New Year celebration, this holiday is the climax of each year. Tortimer hosts an outdoor countdown party for the villagers in town. The day following the celebration is New Year's Day, the second part of the New Year celebration. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Redd appears at the countdown clock and sells hats. Similarly, in DÅbutsu no Mori, Redd took up a similar role.
