The Battle of Porta Ogari was one of the first engagements on the surface between the COG and Locust Horde. Porta Ogari was attacked, along with almost every other major Seran city across the surface in a single day, in an event that would later be called Emergence Day. A young Dizzy Wallin watched the refineries of Ogari explode during the battle from the deck of the Betancourt Star, while a single NCOG ship raced to the port's defense. The crew of the Star believed the Pendulum Wars had started again and that the ceasefire was a ruse but, in fact, the Locust had emerged and declared war on humanity.
