They all appear as an invisible round ball shaped pulsating shimmering disturbance of the air usually at ground level, together with a deep low frequency sound which is usually heard before the anomaly is seen. Often there will also be leaves spinning around the anomaly. These three anomalies can occur as a single isolated anomaly but usually occur in small groups known as anomaly fields. These anomaly fields can be composed of a single type of anomaly (e.g. all Vortex anomalies in the same anomaly field) two types of anomaly (e.g. mixed Vortex and Whirligig anomalies in the same anomaly field) and occasionally all three types can be found in a single anomaly field, adding to the confusion.
