She was born in Jacksonville, Onslow, North Carolina on 18 May 1886 as the daughter of Bryant and Julia Graham. She married George Sanderlin and had one daughter, Bessie. She was widowed in the 1910s and later moved to Norfolk, Virginia. Katie Sanderlin died in Chesapeake, Chesapeake City, Virginia on 7 November 1996, aged 110 years, 173 days.
