Samuel Sterns was a troubled man form the start. He was something of a slacker, because he became deeply apathetic towards life. His father was a succesful senator named Tim Sterns, a popular and respected man who was always at the top of his class and a valedictorian. Samuel wanted to live up to him but just couldn't make the cut, however because of his father's wealth and prestige he did manage to make into some good schools. And in college is when he met another student named Bruce Banner whom he befriended, but always had a lingering jealousy of because of his intelligence.
He eventually went on to become a lab assistant to Bruce at Stark Industries, where Banner went on to work on experiments involving Gamma Radiation, the big one being the creation of a Gamma Bomb.

The Leader possesses knowledge of genetics, physics, and robotics, and has designed a large number of sophisticated weapons, vehicles, computers, androids, and synthetic humanoids. He is particularly adept at genetic engineering and manipulating radiation for various nefarious purposes.
* Telepathy: In addition to his extraordinary intelligence, the Leader has some psionic powers that enable him to mentally control certain individuals .
* Telekinesis: Psychokinesis, among other telekinetic abilities.
* Technopathy: The Leader has the ability to control electronics, technology, and computer software with his mind.
