| - At the end of the game, Tapp was presented with two doors with which to walk through, labeled Freedom and Truth. To have been able to choose a door at all, he first had to run through a brutal gauntlet filled with traps and other hazards in order to retrieve a key to the doors. Tapp was forced to fight Jigsaw's mysterious apprentice Pighead in order to retrieve the key to his final test. Tapp then killed Pighead and retrieved the key. Jigsaw labeled Tapp a "murderer" for killing Pighead, even though Pighead tried to kill Tapp. Freedom Door: Should Tapp have chosen the Freedom door, he would have chosen to accept Jigsaw's advice and let go of his obsession, which would permit him to leave the Asylum without ever seeing or hearing from Jigsaw again, but he would also never have had another opportunity to capture him. If the player chose this door, Tapp would have freed the rest of the people trapped in the asylum and went home. At his apartment, he could be seen looking at several newspaper clippings which labeled him as a hero. However, Tapp proved to be unable to overcome his obsession and is burdened by the lives he ruined as a result of it. He became angry and depressed because he relinquished his only opportunity to find the man he held responsible for the deaths of many. Unable to cope with his guilt, Tapp used a revolver to take his own life. According to James Wan and Leigh Whannell, this is the ending that is considered canonical within the Saw universe. Truth Door: If Tapp chose the Truth door, he was promised an opportunity to seek the truth behind his obsession, and it was implied that he would come face to face with Jigsaw himself. Indeed, upon entering the door, he saw a figure wearing Jigsaw's red-lined cloak, and gave chase. Tapp caught up to the figure after it tried to flee out a door and lock it on Tapp. Tapp burst through the door and beat the figure relentlessly, before unmasking it and realizing that it was in fact Melissa Sing. Upon playing her tape, Tapp discovered that because Melissa had offered to forgive Tapp for the death of her husband, Jigsaw was putting her through another test that would lead her to her kidnapped son. As part of the test, Jigsaw sewed her mouth shut, gave her his robe, and told her to help Tapp stay alive and make sure that he followed the rules until the end of his game. Horrified by his actions, Tapp let Melissa go, but seconds later, she was killed by the same Quadruple Shotgun trap that killed her husband. The fate of her son remains unknown. Tapp, as a result of the events leading to that point, suffered a mental breakdown and was placed in a real mental facility, where he believed that he was still being tested by Jigsaw and was trapped in one of his games which resembles Jenning's pendulum trap.
