- The New York Jets (formerly the Brooklyn Jews) are a semi-professional football team that apparently "plays" in the National Football League. The team was originally named the Titans but soon after a Jet plane crashed into into the visiting teams bench at Shea Stadium the team was renamed to the Jets. Although the visiting team had no players available after the incident, the Jets amazingly still managed to lose the game after a bad snap on a punt resulted in a safety. Shortly afterward, Jesus Christ came down to Earth and stood on the fifty yard line. Unfortunately, national TV coverage had switched to the movie 'Heidi' so there is no visual record of this event.

- In "Lethal Weapons", they played the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game was seen on television in The Drunken Clam. It was put on as requested by the leafers from New York, while Quahog natives wanted to watch the New England Patriots game. The Patriots and Jets are AFC East division rivals, leading to a fight between the groups of bar patrons.

On the January 4, 2011 episode of Around the Horn[1], host Tony Reali, while explaining Jets head coach Rex Ryan's news conference leading up to a wild card playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts, inserts Glenn Quagmire's catchphrase "Giggity giggity" following Ryan's statement "You lose a playoff game and it's devastating. I wanna put the shoe on the other foot.". As part of panelist and Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plaschke's argument, he calls Ryan the "Peter Griffin" of the NFL, because of their being overweight and white and green clothing. He tries to get more points because he provided his own Family Guy reference. After his elimination, Plaschke is asked to do an impersonation of Griffin, and does so poorly.

In a unique arrangement for the league, the Jets share New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the New York Giants. The franchise is legally and corporately registered as New York Jets, LLC. The team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League; later, the franchise joined the NFL in the merger of the AFL and the NFL. The team began play in 1960 at the Polo Grounds. Under new ownership, the current name was adopted in 1963 and the franchise was relocated to Shea Stadium in 1964 and then to the Meadowlands Sports Complex in 1984. The Jets advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 1968 and went on to compete in Super Bowl III where they defeated the Baltimore Colts, becoming the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in a AFL-NFL World Championship Game. Since 1968, the Jets have appeared in the playoffs thirteen times, and in the AFC Championship Game four times, most recently losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the semi-finals. The team headquarters and training facility, Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, which opened in 2008, is located in Florham Park. The team currently holds their annual training camp sessions on the campus of the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) in Cortland, New York while holding occasional sessions at the Florham Park complex.
