- In that capacity, he conducted an inspection of the USS Enterprise after its return from a battle with the USS Reliant, which had been commandeered by Khan Noonien Singh. It was during this inspection that Morrow informed James Kirk and his crew that the Enterprise was going to be decommissioned. Later, Kirk pled with Morrow for permission to take the Enterprise back to the Genesis planet in an effort to reunite Spock's katra with his body, a request which Morrow denied, explaining that Genesis had been quarantined.
