The Labour Party of New Prussia can trace its origins back as one of the oldest political parties in New Prussia, established under the name of the Socialist Party in 1854. The Labour Party governed at the national level in a grand coalition with the Conservatives and the Royal Conservatives from 1998 until 27th September 2006. The Labour Party conceded defeat in the national election of 2006, with its share of the votes having dropped from 34.2% to 23%, compared to 2002, and became the largest opposition party represented in the Chamber of Ambassadors. The party participates in three county governments, of which one is governed by a Labour Prime Minister.
