- Mako Iwamatsu(マコ 岩松Mako Iwamatsu), born Makoto Iwamatsu(岩松 信Iwamatsu Makoto) (December 10, 1933 – July 21, 2006), was a Japanese-American actor. Many of his acting roles credited him simply as Mako, omitting his surname. Mako is known for Aku from Samurai Jack, Master Splinter from the movie TMNT, Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Akiro from Conan the Barbarian.

- Director Kevin Munroe announced on July 20, 2006 that Mako was voicing Splinter in the then-upcoming film, TMNT. Sadly, the very next day, Mako passed away at the age of 72. All of Mako's lines for the film had been finished, and any ADR cleanup was finished by his Samurai Jack co-star, Phil LaMarr.

- Mako was born in Kobe, Japan, the son of noted children's book author and illustrator Taro Yashima. His parents moved to the United States when he was a small child. He joined them there in 1949 and began studying architecture. He joined the military in the 1950s and became a naturalized American citizen in 1956. During his military service, he discovered his theatrical talent and trained at the Pasadena Community Playhouse while on leave. Mako was married to actress Shizuko Hoshi and had two daughters with her, both of whom are actresses. He had three grandchildren.
- He is best known as Iroh, uncle to Zuko on Avatar: The Last Airbender. His first role with Nickelodeon was as Mr. Yamaguchi in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie. Notably, his last role was as Splinter in Imagi Animation Studios' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CGI film, released just two years before Nickelodeon bought the franchise. Following his death, which occurred after production of the second season, the Avatar episode "The Tales of Ba Sing Se"'s third segment, "The Tale of Iroh", was dedicated to Mako. Greg Baldwin voiced Iroh for the third season.
- Mako was Force-sensitive from birth, and came to resent the Jedi Order for not discovering him and taking he and his brother in. Even so, he maintained a hope that the Jedi would come for him throughout his youth, a hope which was ultimately extinguished when the Empire began its purge of the Order.
