She had only released one solo record before teaming up with Willem Duyn, otherwise known as Mouth, from 1971 to 1974. The duo participated in the 1974 contest in Brighton with I See A Star, and finishing in third place - the best result for the Netherlands since their second win in 1959. That was beaten by Teach-In the next year and then by The Common Linnets in 2014, points-wise.

The duo participated in the 1974 contest in Brighton with I See A Star, and finishing in third place - the best result for the Netherlands since their second win in 1959. That was beaten by Teach-In the next year and then by The Common Linnets in 2014, points-wise. MacNeal went on to produce more singles and records, and then returned to the Contest to participate as the host country in 1980, with the song Amsterdam, where she also received a good score. Both her entries are major fan-favourites.
