Minara was the primary star of the Minara system. Minara went supernova in 2268, destroying the planets inhabited by the Vians and the Anjurwan. (TOS episode: "The Empath", VOY short story: "The Healing Arts") When the USS Enterprise was trapped in an antimatter universe in 2270, they were able to escape by approaching a dead star which corresponded with the Minara supernova. - This star supernovaed in 2268. Its counterpart in the antimatter universe was located twelve degrees south of the galactic plane. At that time, the star system included at least two planets – one was used by the Vians, the other was the homeworld for Gem's people. (TOS: "The Empath" ) While inhabiting the body of Dr. Janice Lester in 2269, James T. Kirk referred to events immediately preceding Minara's supernova in an attempt to convince Spock of his identity. (TOS: "Turnabout Intruder" )

(TOS: "Turnabout Intruder" ) In 2270 the USS Enterprise set course for the dead star in the antimatter universe that corresponded with the Minara supernova, where it emerged back into the familar "positive matter universe." - Minara was the primary star of the Minara system. (TAS episode: "The Counter-Clock Incident") Radiation emitted by Minara, as well as the Beta Niobe supernova, threatened many nearby systems for years to follow, including Verzhik, which was particularly badly damaged in 2279.
