Savoca (Sicillian: Sàvuca) is a small commune located in eastern Sicily. The town is located within the Province of Messina, and is about 170 kilometers (approx 105 miles) east of Palermo. Along with Forza d'Agrò the town of Savoca was used as the location for the scenes of the Godfather set in Corleone. Both Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola had visited the actual town of Corleone and decided it would not be suitable for filming, but had decided both Forza d'Agrò and Savoca would work much better for purposes of filming.
