Dionne was drafted 81st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He was named to the 1992 NHL All-Rookie Team after scoring 21 goals and 34 points in only 39 games. Overall, he played 223 career NHL games, scoring 61 goals and 79 assists for 140 points. He won a Stanley Cup in 1993 with the Montreal Canadiens. He was later dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers with John LeClair and Eric Desjardins for Mark Recchi.
