  • The LETL "Contagion" Chemical Weapon is a military defense weapon created by a private Salarian manufacturer. The weapon fires expensive, pressurized capsules at high speeds towards the target, releasing the Biocide within. Biocide is a patented compound combining several poisons, toxins, acids, and even radioactive material into a powerful mixture that is incredibly lethal to organic targets, especially Drell, Asari, and Salarians. Biocide has been carefully engineered to comply with Citadel laws about weapons of mass destruction. It must be kept under extreme pressure generated by mass effect fields, because it deteriorates into less harmful metals, salts, and gasses after a few seconds outside the field. This causes it to explode violently when released, letting it damage cells and organs it comes in contact with, but without any residue or byproduct that would contaminate the environment, aside from some radiation. Tactically, it is extremely effective against un-armored targets such as when fighting in an atmosphere, or against wild aliens like Thresher Maws. However, targets fully protected by inorganic armor are less likely to be contaminated, so the only damage will be kinetic energy from the projectile and possibly shorting out shields for a short time.
