Alexander learned how to hold a sword by Haakon the Champion, and fought him. He won against him at the age of 9, being the youngest to ever defeat the Village's Champion.

abstract	The Commander was born in the year 145 in Draynor Village, but grew up in Barbarian Village. Although the Barbarians were uncivilized, somehow, his family knew the town's chief. So everyone there respected and treated them as one of their own. There, is where he learned the ways of Guthix from a Priest that was not so far away from the village. Alexander learned how to hold a sword by Haakon the Champion, and fought him. He won against him at the age of 9, being the youngest to ever defeat the Village's Champion. When he was 16, he moved on out to the city of Varrock with his valuables. There, he accidentally met King Roald, which was with his palace guard. The King was amazed by the boy's self-defense, as normally, if he pointed a sword towards a Monarch, he'd be executed. Though he was scared, the King didn't took it as a threat, and knew the boy was just defending himself. There, he took him as his Apprentice. When he was 24, he earned the title as "Commander" of the Varrockian Guard, being ahead of Captain Rovar, which is why he has a grudge against him, since Roald used to trust him.
