"In electronics, a battery or voltaic cell is a combination of one or more electrochemical Galvanic cells which store chemical energy. These cells create a voltage difference between the terminals of the battery. When an external electrical circuit is connected to the battery, then the battery drives an electric current through the circuit and electrical work is done."

  • Laptop batteries typically are only under warranty for one year and usually need to be replaced after two years.

  • Batteries are objects that appear in the Big Hero 6 world while playing as Baymax.
  • Used to power the (very few) electronic devices you use that require them, namely the X-ray Detector.
  • Batteries, also known as Accumulators and Gauss rounds, are a special type ammunition exclusively used by the Gauss rifle and the EM1 Rifle featured in all three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

For intermittent sources of energy, such as solar, rechargeable batteries make it possible to run electrical loads even when the energy source is absent, at night and on cloudy days. Usually a chemical reaction that can run forwards and backwards is used to push electrons out of the battery when power is needed, and draw electrons into the battery when it is being recharged. • /Batteries store electricity. Many possible chemical reactions can store electricity. This means some batteries are lighter, or can provide energy at a higher rate, than others. Neither of these factors are likely to be an issue for a bank of batteries that need never move, in a home's power closet. A few of the many types of chemical battery that exist: * Nickel Cadmium (cold-tolerant) * Nickel Metal Hydride (light) * Lithium ion (very light) * Lead acid batteries (cheap, and the only type likely to be used in a home power system of reasonable size) Lead acid batteries come in a variety of formats: * Wet * Sealed batteries, which include * * Absorbed Glass Mat * Gel battery Batteries have a limited lifetime, often shorter than the lifetime of other system components. The life of a battery is measured in discharge/recharge cycles, and the deeper the discharge, the shorter the lifetime will be. This means that a battery system for a solar system, which will charge and then discharge daily, is different from a grid backup battery system, which will only discharge and charge when a power failure occurs. The battery bank for the solar system must have a larger capacity, so that its depth of discharge (DOD) will be much shallowed, perhaps drawing down only 30-40% of its stored electricity on a typical day. The backup power supply will be needed much less often, and so it may survive for years despite a 75% DOD -- because it only cycles a few times a year.
