The Destroid Phalanx (official designation SDR-04-Mk XII), also known as the Spartan (not to be confused with the Destroid Spartan ), was a Destroid fielded by the United Earth forces during the First Robotech War.   • The Destroid Phalanx (official designation SDR-04-Mk XII), also known as the Spartan (not to be confused with the Destroid Spartan ), was a Destroid fielded by the United Earth forces during the First Robotech War. Based on the Destroid Tomahawk chassis the Phalanx's main weapons were a pair of large missile launchers. These launchers could fire up to 11 missiles at any one time and carried several magazines that also contained 11 missiles. These missiles were typical long range missiles and were used in an anti-air capacity, though the Phalanx could be outfitted with artillery rockets. For the final battle of the First Robotech War the Phalanxes on the SDF-1 were equipped with reflex missiles. Phalanxes were involved in the training of RDF pilots. (Robotech: Battlecry) The Phalanx was capable of limited space operations due to its vernier thrusters. This allowed for units that were stationed on the deck of the SDF-1 to propel themselves back to the battlefortress if they were knocked off. The Phalanx was first deployed on the SDF-1 and was used to augment the ship's own weapon system to protect the vessel from Zentraedi attack. Following the end of the war, the surviving Phalanxes from the SDF-1 were stationed at airbases in New Macross City and in nearby cities, such as Monument City. (Robotech Infopedia)
