CMS Redemption refers to a Nebulon-B Frigate, formerly of the Caspian Navy. She was part of Admiral Dergan Roj's Barren Sector Fleet that arrived in Caspia in 4 ABY, along with her sister ship Ascension. The two vessels usually operated in tandem, and were present in Roj's line of battle at Endor, and came through largely intact. The ship subsequently became referred to as Roj's Redemption in all Alliance records, so as to avoid further confusion. The name Redemption has been suggested for a proposed CDU Navy battleship (BBC-17) of the Admiral Roj-class.

  • CMS Redemption refers to a Nebulon-B Frigate, formerly of the Caspian Navy. She was part of Admiral Dergan Roj's Barren Sector Fleet that arrived in Caspia in 4 ABY, along with her sister ship Ascension. The two vessels usually operated in tandem, and were present in Roj's line of battle at Endor, and came through largely intact. Redemption's name ultimately proved to be a source of some confusion, and a point of friction between Admirals Roj and Ackbar. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance discovered that it had two Nebulons in its order of battle with the name Redemption - one under the command of Roj, and a medical frigate attached to Ackbar's main fleet. As Ackbar held higher rank, Roj was ordered to rename his Redemption. Roj matter-of-factly declined, stating that his Redemption had been commissioned earlier by a full two years (and was, in his words, "a proper combat unit", no less), and therefore should take precedence. Rebel Alliance High Command would remain unimpressed, and Roj would be ordered several times over the course of the Rebellion to rename his Redemption. The order would each time fall on deaf ears, and it's been theorized based upon command logs that Roj's staff made a game out of strategically losing or garbling the order. Roj would ultimately claim to have never received a follow-up to his reply, chalking it up to "the chaos of war". The ship subsequently became referred to as Roj's Redemption in all Alliance records, so as to avoid further confusion. With Repulse's unfortunate early retirement, and Provost employed as the main flagship, Redemption would serve as a flotilla flagship in the new Caspian Navy, proving vital in the early defense of the Union in such day to day tasks as escorting merchant convoys and suppressing piracy. Nevertheless she and other Nebulon-class ships in the CDU Navy's inventory would ultimately be mothballed due to manpower limitations, in favor of the newer, more efficient Shearwater-class frigates. Redemption would ultimately be sold back to the New Republic, in exchange for such military paraphernalia as A-Wing interceptors and shield generators. It is a matter of historical debate as to what ultimately became of her. It is known that she was mothballed at least once more, but the system housing the mothball yard has since passed into Imperial hands, and there is no record as to whether she was destroyed, captured, or transfered as a result. The matter is a logistical footnote to the New Republic, but has recently become a matter of controversy in the CDU as historical interest in Roj's Fleet has grown, and there had been considerable support for re-acquiring the ship for use as a museum piece. However, recent research has suggested that Redemption was likely used as a ram-ship against the third Death Star, and as such destroyed in 10 ABY. The name Redemption has been suggested for a proposed CDU Navy battleship (BBC-17) of the Admiral Roj-class.
