They have played at Edgeley Park in the borough since 1902, and are are nicknamed "The Hatters" after the town's former hatmaking industry. Long-term Coronation Street producer and writer H.V. Kershaw was a fervent supporter of the team and watched them play as often as he could, often being given lifts to the ground by his television colleagues as he never learned to drive.

In February 2001 Ashley Peacock, Matt Ramsden, Charlie Ramsden, Curly Watts and Emma Watts went to watch the team in a match leaving behind a snobby Maxine Peacock who refused to go but later wished she had done so as she felt left out.
