Amanda McKittrick Ros was a turn of the (19th to 20th) century author, notorious for urple prose that is all but incomprehensible. The Inklings, a group of writers including PPC favorites J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, had a game in which they would read from her works aloud, and whoever kept a straight face the longest while reading won. In this respect, her works were treated much like The Eye of Argon is today.
