The Cenozoic is an era in Earth's history. We are in the Cenozoic. It featured the rise of mammals after the demise of the dinosaurs. The Cenozoic Era is highly significant for us humans - as we would not even be here if it were not for the titanic climate changes and good fortune (not to mention the convenient 'removal' of the dinosaurs) the mammals were granted right from the start of this era. It is a time of changes, and two major extinction events took place during this Period: the Eocene-Oligocene Extinction Event, which wiped out 1 in 5 living organisms, and the Pleistocene-Holocene Extinction, which has been triggered by humanity and is, in the long run, second only to the Great Permian Mass Extinction Event in its damage to the global ecosystems.

  • The Cenozoic (also Cænozoic or Cainozoic) Era (pronounced /ˌsiːnəˈzoʊɪk/, /ˌsɛn-/) (meaning "new life" (Greek καινός (kainos), "new", and ζωή (zoe), "life"), is the most recent of the three classic geological eras and covers the period from 65.5 million years ago to the present. It is marked by the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous that saw the demise of the last non-avian dinosaurs and the end of the Mesozoic Era. The Cenozoic era is ongoing.
  • "Cenozoic" (新(しん)生(せい)代(だい) Shinseidai) is an archetype used by Jim Crocodile Cook in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. Like the "Mesozoic" and "Paleozoic" archetype, the only support is "Time Stream". This archetype is related to the "Fossil" and "Mesozoic" archetype. Cenozoic (meaning "new life") is the current and most recent of the three Phanerozoic geologic eras, following the Mesozoic Era and covering the period from 66 million years ago to present day.

  • The Cenozoic Era meaning "new life" (Greek καινός (kainos), "new", and ζωή (zoe), "life"), is the most recent of the three classic geological eras. It covers the 65.5 million years since the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous that marked the demise of the last non-avian dinosaurs and the end of the Mesozoic Era. The Cenozoic era is ongoing. The Cenozoic is divided into two periods, the Paleogene and Neogene, and they are in turn divided into epochs. The Paleogene consists of the Paleocene, Eocene, and Oligocene epochs, and the Neogene consists of the Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene epochs, the last of which is ongoing. Historically, the Cenozoic has been divided into periods (or sub-eras) named the Tertiary (Paleocene through Pliocene) and Quaternary (Pleistocene and Holocene).
