The Unicorn Preservation Initiative was a conservation program that began in 1972, after a push by Chief Forester of Kinnimoore Casimir Walsh. The object of the program was the replenish the unicorn population of the Isle of Kinnimoore, which had been slowly declining since the animals were first introduced to the Isle's woodlands in the 1850's. The program was a resounding success, allowing for a surplus of unicorn tail strands and horns on the Isle. Due to of the abundance of unicorns, most wands made on the Isle after the 1970's carried a unicorn hair as a core. Also, powdered unicorn horn became a very profitable export for the Isle in the 1980's.
