Gregory Nazianzen (or Gregori Nazianzus) was a 4th century Christian theologian and bishop of Constantinople. Gregory lived from AD 329 to 25 January 389. He is sometimes known as Saint Gregory the Theologian. The Eastern Orthodox Church considers him one of the Three Holy Hierarchs, together with his friend Basil the Great and John Chrysostom. Basil, Gregory Nazianzus, and Basil's brother Gregory of Nyssa are called the Cappadocian Fathers. The Roman Catholic Church considers him a saint and a Doctor of the Church.
