Jerel Ifil was one of a clutch of players who was signed for Rovers on short-term deals by manager Dave Penney during his brief spell in charge late in the 2010–11 season. He played in the first three of Rovers' fixtures after signing, making his debut in a 1–0 defeat away to Brentford on 26 February 2011, but a red card in his third game saw him pick up a suspension and never regain his place in the side. His only other inclusion in a matchday squad was as an unused substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the penultimate game of the season. The club opted not to retain his services at the expiry of his deal, and he left the club in the summer having made a total of just three appearances.
