Synopsis
  • As a mining company begins digging on the Mescalero Tribal Reservation near Roswell, New Mexico, the workers see a huge cloud moving quickly toward them. But it's not a cloud; it's a group of angry American Indian spirits. The Indians wreak havoc on the miners and their equipment. At NORAD Mountain, the stronghold of the National Interest, Mr. Duchloss is informed that the miners have refused to work after being attacked by Indian spirits. Mr. Duchloss says that the National Interest is not interested in the reservation's natural resources. He is looking for more alien technology like Sorcerer. Duchloss plans to go to New Mexico as soon as he raises a new Shadrach. And with the Spear of Destiny, they will defeat the Spectre if he attempts to interfere. Once they collect all the pieces of the American Talisman, they can re-create the icon in their own image, embodying their vision of what the United States should be. As Anna Tsange-Taylor and her daughter Sojourner are packing for a trip, her ex-husband Randall arrives at the door. Randall says that he too had a dream about Mount Rushmore, and he insists on joining them on their journey there. In Nate Kane's motel room in Roswell, New Mexico, the Spectre tells Nate to find out who represented the Indians in the land deal. In the ghost town of Despair, New Mexico, Mr. Duchloss welcomes the new Shadrach. They are joined by some militiamen lent by Dwight Hawke. Using a fragment of the Talisman, Duchloss raises the spirits of several white men who fought against the Indians. This group of spirits refers to itself as the Dead Bunch. In Roswell, Shadrach finds Victorio Cutter and asks him for help in finding the Talisman. Victorio says he can't help, but Shadrach draws a gun and asks him to reconsider. Nate Kane suddenly arrives and shoots Shadrach in the head. Kane tells Victorio to get in his car and drive. As they speed away, Shadrach instructs the National Interest agents to follow them. Kane has learned that Victorio represented the Indians in the land deal, and he suspects that he may also know something about the spirit uprising. Victorio says Kane should talk to his brother Tahzey. In the sacred circle, Tahzey Wovoka is having second thoughts about summoning the spirits. He wonders, "How do you fight that which you hate without becoming something worse?" William Lonetree, the old shaman, chides Tahzey for using shortcuts such as the Talisman. Lonetree then points to the horizon—the Dead Bunch are coming! As Nate Kane and Victorio speed toward Tahzey, Shadrach follows them in a helicopter. Victorio veers off the road and drives directly into the Dead Bunch. The Spectre arrives and demands that Tahzey give him the piece of the Talisman. But Tahzey refuses, despite Lonetree's protests. The Spectre says, "So be it. Death is coming. Upon your head, let it lie."
