Walter McArthur was a wing half who joined Rovers from Goldthorpe United in February 1933. He spent his entire career at Rovers, making a total of 261 appearances in The Football League, scoring 14 times, but would have played far more games had it not been for the Second World War interrupting his career. His entire playing career with Rovers was spent in Division Three (South), but the club won the league title and promotion to Division Two in 1953 while he was assistant trainer. In all he spent over 30 years with the club.
