| - PAW-20 "Neopup" is one of the most recent innovations in the world of firearms from South Africa. PAW deciphers as personal assault weapon, but it`s not an assault rifle, as one could think at first. It`s semi-automatic grenade launcher. PAW-20 has quite unusual construction. The configuration of controls makes it impossible to fire it from the left hand - the handle is now under the receiver, but offset to the right, as seen on picture. This offers a bit more in the way of compactness (though the rationale of such is a bit doubtful, as magazine inserts far on the underside of the housing), and allows for the placement of double Picatinny rails on top of the receiver, which allows for several different sighting devices. A standard configuration includes one red dot optic, however it is possible to set up various optical/nightvision/electronic sights and devices, such as laser rangefinders. Technically, PAW-20 is semi-automatic and gas-operated. It fires proprietary 20x42 mm/162 gram ammunition, which is available in HE-I (High Explosive Incendiary), SAPHEI (Semi-Armor Piercing High Explosive Incendiary), APC (Armor Piercing Capped), Practice round and Practice Tracer. Practice round appeared very useful for door breaching and lethal for a direct hit of personnel in CQB. The barrel and bolt group are located within the receiver to dampen the overall kickback. The initially designed box magazine was later replaced by a rotary drum as it improved the precision and Hit Probability of the weapon. So far, there were no reports of PAW-20 being used in warfare, or adapted by any of the world country armies.
