He was a prominent New York real estate developer who was engaged in the construction of a new residential apartment tower at Catherine Street in lower Manhattan during the events of The Cabinet of Curiosities. Fairhaven was also secretly "the Surgeon", a serial killer who mutilated his victims and removed the cauda equina portion of the spinal cord. He was attempting to recreate the experiments of Enoch Leng, a 19th-century scientist who murdered more than 40 people and created a formula to successfully extend his life span to over one hundred and fifty years.
