  • The Chestnuts estate was council estate in the Sheldon area of Birmingham. The low rise estate was demolished during 2006. At the time of demolition, only two properties remained occupied - the homeowners were rehoused. The former Cabinet Member for Housing approved the clearance of 84 flats and maisonettes at Chestnuts estate on 9 September 2004 and authority was given to undertake the demolition. Structural investigations identified several inherent building defects including damaged external drainage, sulphate attack to solid ground floors and chimneys, cracking to internal and external brickwork, spilling to concrete balconies and severe rising damp and condensation.
