Not long before the Mogadorian attack on Lorien, The Defensdefene Council organised for Professor Orkun and several council members to investigate the violet column of light that they were suspicious of. Unbeknownst to them, the column was draining The Grid of power and weakening Lorien's defences. The Defense Council facilities, as well as other important and highly populated areas of Lorien (Spires of Elkin), were targeted in the first wave of Mogadorian missile fire.
