Prior to his work on Enterprise, Beck wrote episodes for the television series Chicago Hope and Seven Days (1999-2001). After his departure during the first season of Enterprise he wrote an episode for the remake The Twilight Zone in 2003 and joined the production of Whoopi Goldberg's drama series Strong Medicine as co-producer as well as writer for the episode "Breathing Lessons" in 2003. The following year he worked as writer, story editor, and consulting producer on the drama series Doc, followed by an occupation as writer and story editor on the crime series Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye between 2003 and 2005.
