  • Piety is gained by various actions and is used to pay for praying. (I'll let you handle the structure, lol) Sacrificed stomafilia gives: Blessed: 298 Uncursed: 238 Cursed: 118 The difference between uncursed and blessed is small compared to the difference in satiation value, which is normally the determinant of piety value of sacrificed food.
  • Piety on RuneScapen paras rukous. 1. * OHJAUS
  • To gain access to this prayer, players must complete the King's Ransom quest and the Knight Waves Training Grounds activity, along with having level 70 Defence and 70 Prayer. Other than its several uses in Defence and Melee combat, it is also a requirement to have this prayer unlocked for completion of both the Morytania Hard Diary and the Kandarin Hard Diary.
  • To gain access to this prayer, players must complete the quest King's Ransom and the Knight Waves training ground miniquest, along with having level 70 Defence and 70 Prayer. Piety is also needed to complete one of the hard Seers' Village Tasks. Boosts cannot be used to complete this task. This prayer also has a role in the quest Nomad's Requiem, where it is the only way to stop the smoke from harming the player in one of the puzzle rooms.
  • This skill improves a number of different healer type abilities. It generally characterizes a players knowledge of the gods, and his devotion to such.
  • Piety is a hidden characteristic, which measures how (dis)pleased the PC's deity is with him/her. A character has similar quantity for the two other gods he is not aligned with, but these show up only through possible not-aligned god punishment (typically when converting altars and reading religious tracts). When the PC sacrifices on an aligned altar or reads a religious text (tract of order, tract of balance, tract of chaos), one of the messages below is generated as feedback on the PC's piety. Similarly, different messages are displayed when using holy symbol.
  • Piety used to be the strongest stat-boosting prayer in RuneScape, but was surpassed by the Turmoil curse from the Ancient Curses: Turmoil increases Attack and Defence by 10 levels and melee damage by 10%. Turmoil also drains Prayer points at a faster rate than Piety. To gain access to this prayer, players must complete the quest King's Ransom and the Knight Waves training ground miniquest, along with having level 70 Defence and 70 Prayer. Piety is also needed to complete one of the hard Seers' Village Tasks. Boosts cannot be used to complete this task.
  • The word piety comes from the Latin word pietas, the noun form of the adjective pius (which means "devout" or "good"). Pietas in traditional Latin usage expressed a complex, highly valued Roman virtue; a man with pietas respected his responsibilities to other people, gods and entities (such as the state), and understood his place in society with respect to others.

abstract
  • Piety is a hidden characteristic, which measures how (dis)pleased the PC's deity is with him/her. A character has similar quantity for the two other gods he is not aligned with, but these show up only through possible not-aligned god punishment (typically when converting altars and reading religious tracts). When the PC sacrifices on an aligned altar or reads a religious text (tract of order, tract of balance, tract of chaos), one of the messages below is generated as feedback on the PC's piety. Similarly, different messages are displayed when using holy symbol. In the case of cross-aligned altars, the size of the offering and piety levels towards gods determine which god accepts sacrifice. Small offerings will shift the PC's alignment toward that of the altar and trigger a piety message with the altar's god (and possible retribution), while large enough ones will cause the PC's god to take control of the altar, converting it. If a character has exceptionally good standings with a cross-aligned deity, 'large enough' might mean exceptionally large amounts of cash. In case of religious tracts, the checks are somewhat waived if the PC is at the 'spiritually invincible' or higher state of piety with a message "... but you seem to be protected by the benevolence of ". PCs who have low piety with all their gods should therefore be very careful when reading tracts. The game starts with the deity of the PC's initial alignment at 'pleased' and both others at 'unconcerned'.

The Latin term in turn may derive from "Piodasses", an ancient Greek transliteration of the Indic Prakrit term "Piyadasi", meaning "beloved of the Gods", a term by which the Indian Maurya Emperor Ashoka the Great referred to himself in the Edicts of Ashoka (3rd century BC).
