Hawryliw spent one more season with the Mohawks and then played for Islanders' farm teams in the Central Hockey League. In 1980-81 he was a first All-Star for the Indianapolis Checkers which helped get him into one game for the Islanders in 1981-82. But the talent-deep Islanders kept him down in the minors. He played in the Cetral League and the International League until his retirement in 1987.
