Scrolls of ill fate are a rare type of scrolls in ADOM. They will negatively change luck-related intrinsics the PC possesses. The scroll behaviour seems to be either bugged or designed in rather strange way. If player reads a cursed scroll of ill fate, he will likely lose Fate smiles if he has it; in such a case no other changes will occur. Otherwise, if PC has the Lucky intrinsic he will become cursed, with no other changes, and if the player has neither Lucky nor Fate smiles, there is no change, but it generates a message about getting less lucky (which raises suspicion that code mixes checks for Lucky status and tries remove Lucky when it is not present, and grants Cursed while it's present, while it probably should do exactly opposite).

Desirability
  • Scrolls of ill fate are one of the few purely negative items in ADOM. It is highly unlikely that the player will want to deliberately curse the PC. As all scrolls, they can be dipped in uncursed water to create blank scrolls. These can be later used in conjunction with magical writing sets. Given their rarity, polymorphing them with a potion of raw chaos in hopes of obtaining something actually useful is also another possibility.
