- The man was in front of both House and Anica Jovanovich. Post time was approaching and it was clear both that the man had no idea which horse he wanted to bet on or how to place a complicated bet. Finally, Anica stepped in and told him he could bet on 4 horses in an exacta by paying $24. He got out of the way in time for House to place his bet, but Anica was too late and didn't get her bet down.

- Fat Man was the codename for the type of atomic bomb that was detonated over Nagasaki, Japan, by the United States on 9 August 1945. It was the second of two nuclear weapons to be used in warfare to date, the other being Little Boy, and its detonation caused the third man-made nuclear explosion. Two more Fat Man bombs were detonated during the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Some 120 Fat Man units were produced between 1947 and 1949, when it was superseded by the Mark 4 nuclear bomb. The Fat Man was retired in 1950.
- The Fat Man is a spectre of true and disgusting evil. Believed to be the personification of Human excess, he appears as a squat, morbidly-obese man, with pasty, white skin and a wormy mouth flanked by heavy, dripping jowls. Black, piggish eyes stare out hungrily from beneath the rolls of fat on his head. To make matters worse, he’s nude and covered with stretch marks and dark blue-green veins. When the Fat Man appears, he is always feasting. He may be seated in a pile of his own excrement in a street or at the next table in a tavern. His harbinger is a rancid smell of sour milk and ham.[1a]
