The TIE Destroyer was an experimental fighter developed by Sienar Fleet Systems engineers in 13 ABY. It was incredibly expensive to manufacture, as it could act as a small smuggling freighter, complete with a pod for storage, one for sleeping quarters, one for living quarters, and a hyperdrive. Only eight ever rolled off the assembly line, before the project was cancelled for its high cost. One year later, Darth Owak stole the fighters from a shipyard on Kuat and smuggled them back to Pertho. The next year, Zak Starfighter stole the seventh created fighter, and has used it since then in the war. The Jedi have, unfortunately, lost track of the rest of the fighters.
