Cheng Wu served under the commander Xiahou Mao once to resist the invading army of Shu Han. He proposed to Xiahou a strategy which lured the enemy general Zhao Yun into a trap, but Zhao managed to fight his way out. Cheng also advised Xiahou on capturing Zhao in an ambush. Cheng Wu became a prominent figure in Cao Wei in the later years.
