Ungoliant Delduthling, later simply known as Ungoliant, was a female Ainu and a Maia of Tython. A survivor of the Force Wars, Delduthling joined Melkor Belegûr on Arda to assist in the destruction of the Je'daii who had established themselves as the rulers of Tython under the name of the Valar. Taking on the form of a giant spider, Ungoliant created more Great Spider in her image in a bid to take control of the planet for herself. Feeding on the light, Ungoliant's hunger was legendary and made even more so when legend claimed she consumed her own body in her lust to feed.
