Guy Ipoua was a forward who joined Rovers in 1998 from Spainish side Alicante. He became the first Cameroonian to play for the Gas when he made his debut on 8 August 1998, coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Jamie Cureton in a 2–1 defeat to Burnley. During his year-long stint in Bristol he played 24 times in the league, scoring three times, and also played a further seven cup games without scoring before being released in the summer of 1999.

Guy's brother, Samuel Ipoua, is a former Cameroon international. He faced Italy and Austria in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup in France and also took part in the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations.
