Vinlandic or Vinlenzka is the main language of the Vinlandic settlers. Old Vinlandic (11th-14th century) was very similar to Old Icelandic and Old Norwegian. Around the 15th century the noun cases started to disappear in the more populated towns of Vinland, but many rural dialects retained the noun cases of Old Vinlandic. The standardized modern descendant of these rural dialects is called Marklandic. After the arrival of French settlers in the late 17th and 18th centuries, Vinlandic adopted many French words. The language was written in the Runic alphabet until the late 18th century when the Latin alphabet became the standard.
